Every year, the Gulf Coast Orchestra celebrates Memorial Day with a spectacular concert of patriotic music. This year they will be playing music by Duke Ellington, by George M. Cohan, marches by Sousa, God Bless America, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and much, much more. It's a very meaningful event. The orchestra is particularly excited this year to welcome to the podium Mr. Frank Emond, a 99-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor who is also one heck of a conductor. He'll be conducting Stars and Stripes for the ensemble. It will be a perfect way to celebrate this holiday that is so important to so many of us. The concerts take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Jones Park in Gulfport, and at 7 p.m. on Sunday in Beach Park in Pascagoula. Bring some coolers. Bring some lawn chairs. Enjoy the evening. The event will close with fireworks. Don't miss it.
